Massage Advice
This guide outlines important pre-treatment advice, possible side effects, and aftercare instructions to help you get the most from your massage treatment.
Pre-Treatment Advice (Applicable to All Massage Treatments)
Avoid heavy meals or alcohol for at least 2 hours before your massage.
Stay hydrated before your appointment to help flush out toxins released during the massage.
If you have any medical conditions, injuries, or are pregnant, inform your therapist beforehand so they can adapt the treatment if necessary.
Wear comfortable clothing that is easy to change in and out of.
Arrive a few minutes early to relax and discuss any areas of concern with your therapist.
If you are feeling unwell or have a contagious illness (e.g., cold, flu, skin infections), it’s best to reschedule your appointment.
Possible Side Effects
While massage is generally safe and beneficial, you may experience temporary side effects, including:
Mild Soreness or Tenderness – Especially after deep tissue or targeted muscle work. This should ease within 24-48 hours.
Fatigue or Lightheadedness – Due to increased circulation and relaxation, some clients may feel a little sleepy or dizzy post-treatment.
Increased Urination – Massage stimulates circulation and the lymphatic system, which may cause increased detoxification.
Headache or Mild Nausea – Rare but can happen if toxins are released quickly; staying hydrated can help.
Slight Redness or Warmth – Particularly with hot stone or deep tissue massage due to increased blood flow.
Aftercare Advice
Immediately After Your Massage:
Drink plenty of water to help flush out toxins and rehydrate muscles.
Take your time getting up, especially if feeling lightheaded.
Avoid caffeine, alcohol, and smoking for at least 24 hours to allow the body to detoxify fully.
For the Next 24-48 Hours:
If experiencing soreness, take a warm bath with Epsom salts to help relax muscles.
Avoid intense physical activity or heavy lifting, especially after deep tissue massage.
Keep hydrated and eat a light, healthy meal to support recovery.
