Nail Treatment Advice
This guide provides essential pre-treatment advice, possible side effects, and aftercare instructions to help you maintain beautiful, healthy nails.
Pre-Treatment Advice (For All Nail Treatments):
Remove any existing nail polish (unless a soak-off is included in your appointment).
Moisturise your hands and feet regularly before your treatment to maintain healthy nails and cuticles.
If you have any nail infections, fungal infections, or open cuts, please inform your therapist, as treatment may need to be postponed.
Avoid trimming your nails or cuticles before your appointment to prevent irritation.
If you are having gel removal, avoid picking or peeling off existing gel polish, as this can damage the natural nail.
For pedicures, wear open-toed shoes if you are having regular polish to prevent smudging.
Possible Side Effects:
Gel Nail Varnish:
Temporary Nail Sensitivity – Some clients may feel slight discomfort or sensitivity after removal if the nails were weak beforehand.
Nail Dryness or Weakness – If gels are applied or removed incorrectly over time, nails can become brittle.
Allergic Reactions (Rare) – Some individuals may have sensitivities to gel polish ingredients or acetone.
Manicure & Pedicure:
Mild Redness or Sensitivity – Especially if cuticles have been trimmed.
Slight Peeling or Dryness – If nails were previously dehydrated.
Risk of Smudging (Regular Polish) – It takes at least 2 hours for standard polish to fully harden.
General Nail Aftercare (For All Treatments):
Apply cuticle oil daily to keep nails hydrated and prevent splitting.
Wear gloves when cleaning, washing up, or using chemicals to protect your nails.
Avoid using nails as tools to open or pick at objects, as this can cause breakage.
Keep nails at a manageable length to prevent snagging and breakage.
Aftercare for Gel Nail Varnish
Avoid hot baths, saunas, or steam rooms for at least 24 hours, as heat can weaken the gel bond.
Do not pick, peel, or bite at gel polish, as this can damage your natural nails.
If you notice any lifting, avoid pulling at it and book a professional removal to prevent damage.
Keep hands and nails moisturised to prevent dryness and brittleness.
Book professional gel removal when needed to maintain nail health. Please note that we cannot remove any nail enhancement that has not been applied at Utopia.
Aftercare for Manicure & Pedicure
Avoid excessive water exposure for the first few hours to allow polish to fully set.
If you have regular polish, allow at least 2 hours before wearing enclosed shoes or going to bed to prevent smudging.
Moisturise hands and feet daily to prevent dryness and cracking.
Use a base coat if applying regular polish at home to prevent staining.
Rebook regular treatments every 2-4 weeks to keep nails in the best condition.
By following this advice, you can keep your nails looking fresh and healthy for longer. If you have any concerns or need professional removal, please contact your therapist.
